What’s The Deal With Leggings?

United Airlines has recently created a fuss over dress code on their airplanes. In July 2017, they barred two teenage girls from boarding a flight because they were wearing spandex leggings.

Apparently, since they were traveling using an employee travel pass, the dress code banned them from wearing certain apparel, including leggings.  The teenagers agreed to change their clothing and take a later flight.

This incident has caused a social media uproar with the question being asked — Should there be restrictions with what women can and cannot wear? Where should the line be drawn? Is it inappropriate for women to wearing leggings in certain situations? What about on the golf course?

Celebrities like Shannon Watts and Christine Teigen have chimed into this conversation by tweeting about the issue:United Airlines

The constant debate about when or where women should be allowed to wear leggings is a bit ridiculous. Sure, if you’re going to a super important business conference in Boston, you’re going to want to dress-up. But if you’re going on an airplane for 8 hours, us women want to be comfortable.

Who wants to wear jeans for that long? It’s tight, uncomfortable and annoying to wear.

What About Wearing Leggings in Golf?

Well, leggings count as athletic wear, and golf is a sport. In more recent years, leggings have even become accepted as pants. Several women on the LPGA Tour are taking a stand when it comes to sporting a more feminine look while teeing it up.

Michelle Wie, for example, has been known to wear leggings under her skirts. As long as the leggings in question are made from a thicker fabric, women should consider them a stylish, Golf Leggingscomfortable option for the driving range or the golf course.

Golf companies, such as Nike and Puma, are working to creating women’s golf leggings that are fashionable and functional. Lately, I’ve been wearing the Nike Gray Solid Women’s Golf Leggings.

Created with flat seams and stretchy Dri-FIT fabric, hugging your body for total comfort through every round. Especially this time of year, when the New England weather constantly fluctuates between the cold and rainy days, these leggings give me the option of staying warm and dry.

Benefits of Wearing Leggings:

  • Leggings give you 100% of your natural range of motion, helping you perform better.
  • It can be warming, which gives winter golfers a whole new world of wardrobe options.
  • Leggings can be cooling, as offered by the companies that tout the sunscreening properties of their fabrics.
  • Some golf leggings do not cinch your waist. Nike’s leggings have elastic on top to sit around your thigh (something like what bikers have been wearing).
  • Some leggings not only cinch your waist, they shrink it. For this property, look for “compression” on the package.
  • Golf leggings let a woman get away with short skorts or shorts. This is awesome for the young adults who want to stray away from the traditional golf attire.
  • Leggings show the shapeliness of a woman’s legs without showing the imperfections. Those of you who are over 40 know what I’m talking about.
